In the time it took you to read this sentence, Doug Martin just ran for another 60-yard touchdown. Brad Boyes Jersey
You know, if Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano had not inexplicably gone to LeGarrette Blount at the end of the fourth quarter, we could have seen a new single-game record for rushing yards.

As it were, Martin finished with 51.20 fantasy points. It seems like only a few weeks ago when we scrambled to grab Blount off the waiver wire because he had started to poach touchdowns away from Martin, who looked like he was relegated to fantasy obscurity.

Oh, those were the times. I can only imagine how many of you turned down trades for Martin or gloated to those who wasted a draft pick on him. So Martin no doubt is the player of the day, maybe of the year.

Although, why was it Martin who had to lose five yards on a bonus run from scrimmage at the end of the game? Couldn’t Josh Freeman have taken the hit on that? Did anybody lose their fantasy league because of that?

For more on Martin, Brad Boyes Jersey
check out Marcas Grant’s excellent recap on where Martin’s performance ranks in fantasy history.

Gather the children around the fire and listen up: Flex scheduling is back.

The NFL on Monday announced a change to its Week 11 slate of games,Alex Pietrangelo Jersey
shifting the Sunday, Nov. 18 affair between the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots from 1 p.m. ET to 4:25 p.m. ET.
Jeremiah: Luck makes Colts legit
In his Week 9 notes, Daniel Jeremiah says the Colts are bound for big things in 2012 with Andrew Luck under center. More …

More importantly, “Sunday Night Football” between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers remains unaltered.

Flex scheduling runs through Week 17 and allows the NFL to promote its best games to a wider audience, while pushing potential prime-time stinkers back into the wider mix of Sunday fare. To sum it up: Everybody wins.

The NFL must announce tweaked Sunday start times at least 12 days prior to that weekend. Alex Pietrangelo Jersey
The only caveat is the final Sunday of the season. Week 17 changes can be made on just six days’ notice to ensure an afternoon doubleheader and night game with playoff implications.

the League instituted a five-minute sudden-death overtime period.

The move did help. The number of tie games dropped from 122 in ’82-83 to 86 during the ’83-84 season.

In the early years of the NHL, the League did have rules for regular season overtime. Then, on Nov. 21, 1942, those rules were discontinued to due wartime restrictions on train scheduling.

Simply, teams had to make their trains.

Even with the updated regular-season OT rules,Alex Pietrangelo Jersey
the Flames still found themselves in a League-high 14 tie games. At the other end of the spectrum, the defending champion Islanders were part of just four ties.
DRAFT DAY BLUES

Well before the ’83-84 season got under way,Alex Pietrangelo Jersey
the Blues had a big problem. They did not participate in the ’83 draft.

That strange occurrence was the result of an on-going fight between the team’s ownership group, the Ralston-Purina Company, and the League over a proposed sale and relocation of the franchise to Saskatoon.

As a protest to the League’s decision to block the sale and the subsequent collapse of the deal with the Saskatoon group, Ralston-Purina management decided to send no one to represent the team at the draft. Thus, they didn’t select a single player at that draft.

Eventually, the League arranged a sale of the team to businessman Harry Ornest, who kept the team in St. Louis. Still, the franchise was significantly damaged by not participating in the draft.

Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn says he tried to play through a head injury sustained two weeks ago against Oakland, and admitted “that’s my fault for not being smart about it.”
Rapoport: Week 10 game rankings
Texans-Bears promises to be a defensive showdown. Al MacInnis Jersey
Where does it slot in Ian Rapoport’s Rap Sheet Rankings? More …

Quinn was speaking Wednesday for the first time since sustaining the injury Oct. 28.

He remembers taking a knee to the back of the helmet during a scramble early in the game, but he never saw the Raiders’ Rolando McClain when he got sacked on the next play, and Quinn recalled having “tunnel vision” when he threw an ensuing interception.

Quinn also acknowledged sustaining a concussion in a preseason game against Green Bay. Al MacInnis Jersey
That one cleared up quickly, he said, but the latest concussion has been “lingering more.”

Quinn has already been ruled out for Kansas City’s game Monday night at Pittsburgh. It will be the second straight game he’s missed since becoming the starting quarterback

The Islanders came up short the next spring in the “Drive for Five,” losing in five games to the Oilers in a rematch. They haven’t been back since — but they still own a record that Arbour is proud of.

“Our club won (an NHL record) 19 straight playoff series,” Arbour said. “Do you know any other team that has done that?”

Arbour retired after the 1985-86 season,Tj Oshie Jersey
but returned at Torrey’s behest when the Isles hit the skids early in the 1988-89 season. He got them back into the playoffs the following season, then coached them to the Eastern Conference Finals in 1993, ending the Penguins’ drive for a third straight Stanley Cup with a seven-game victory in the Patrick Division Finals — despite losing star center Pierre Turgeon in the previous round after he was injured by an illegal check from Washington’s Hunter.

The Game 7 overtime winner was scored by David Volek, a player who Arbour stood up for when ownership wanted to put him on waivers.

“He scored that goal and the first thing I told that owner that night was, ‘How do you like David Volek now?’” Arbour said in a 2007 interview with Hockey Night in Canada.

Arbour retired after the 1994 playoffs and was enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1996, but made one more appearance behind the bench 11 years later at the urging of then-coach Ted Nolan. It was his 1,500th game as Islanders coach — and, appropriately, the Islanders rallied to beat Pittsburgh in overtime.

“This is an incredible gesture by Ted and the Islanders,”Tj Oshie Jersey
Arbour said at the time. “I am flattered that Ted thought of me and I wouldn’t miss this night for the world. I told the team that I do not want any pre-game fanfare.”

Matt Hasselbeck will appeal a $15,750 fine levied by the NFL for his horse-collar tackle in Sunday’s loss to Chicago Bears. The Tennessee Titans quarterback ran down Bears cornerback Kelvin Hayden after a fumble by tight end Jared Cook and pulled him to the ground at the 4-yard line.

Hasselbeck had a photo in his locker Wednesday that showed his hand on the back of Hayden’s jersey, not in between the neck of the pads.”It’s funny to other people, not funny to me,” Hasselbeck told The Tennessean. “We have rules in place and obviously I was trying to play within the rules, I wasn’t trying to hurt anybody or anything like that.

“I have been getting a lot of jokes today. Jaroslav Halak Jersey
Everyone likes to make jokes. We’ll see. The guy who got tackled probably didn’t even notice. There was nothing violent about the hit.”

Hasselbecks’s tackling skills are funny, but no one would be happy being fined 15 stacks. I doubt the NFL thought the tackle was maliciously on purpose. But it’s not about intent. Guys get fined for accidentally making helmet-to-helmet contact all the time.

Hasselbeck said it himself: The NFL has to have rules. Jaroslav Halak Jersey
Players have to accept consequences for violating those rules, even if it wasn’t on purpose.

The only question is: Does the tackle qualify for the horse-tackle rule? Hasselbeck’s hands appear to grab the jersey above the lettering, but below the inside of the collar. Where’s Mike Pereira when you need him?
