Although, why was it Martin who had to lose five yards on a bonus run from scrimmage at the end of the game? Couldn’t Josh Freeman have taken the hit on that? Did anybody lose their fantasy league because of that?

The only caveat is the final Sunday of the season. Week 17 changes can be made on just six days’ notice to ensure an afternoon doubleheader and night game with playoff implications.

Commissioner Bettman also congratulated the media honorees — Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award winner Roy MacGregor and Foster Hewitt Memorial Award winner Rick Jeanneret.

“They certainly have earned the recognition they received tonight,” the Commissioner said. “And, not coincidentally, Pavel Bure, Adam Oates, Mats Sundin and Joe Sakic certainly gave them lots of material.”

Commissioner Bettman then closed with a few remarks regarding the ongoing lockout.

to recognize ultimate achievements on the ice,” Commissioner Bettman said. “All of us — fans, teams and players — look forward to the time the game returns there.”

The move did help. The number of tie games dropped from 122 in ’82-83 to 86 during the ’83-84 season.

DRAFT DAY BLUES

the Blues had a big problem. They did not participate in the ’83 draft.

That strange occurrence was the result of an on-going fight between the team’s ownership group, the Ralston-Purina Company, and the League over a proposed sale and relocation of the franchise to Saskatoon.

As a protest to the League’s decision to block the sale and the subsequent collapse of the deal with the Saskatoon group, Ralston-Purina management decided to send no one to represent the team at the draft. Thus, they didn’t select a single player at that draft.

Eventually, the League arranged a sale of the team to businessman Harry Ornest, who kept the team in St. Louis. Still, the franchise was significantly damaged by not participating in the draft.

Quinn was speaking Wednesday for the first time since sustaining the injury Oct. 28.

He remembers taking a knee to the back of the helmet during a scramble early in the game, but he never saw the Raiders’ Rolando McClain when he got sacked on the next play, and Quinn recalled having “tunnel vision” when he threw an ensuing interception.
